Shropshire Council hints at Mile End junction official opening

AN OFFICIAL opening of the revamped Mile End junction in Oswestry is imminent.

Shropshire Council revealed on this morning (Friday, January 14) that work on the major junction along the A5/A483 is reaching its conclusion.

The unitary authority also released its latest drone pictures of the work.

The council said via its Twitter feed: “It’s that time of the month where we let you take a look at how work is panning out at Mile End in Oswestry.

“Work is reaching the end stages now – we hope to have an official opening before too long!”

Work began on the revised junction in spring 2021 but for most motorists the main stretch of work began in September when overnight closures were put in place, before the new ‘dumbbell’ design was opened to traffic shortly before Christmas.

The redesign aims to ease congestion at the busy interchange as well as opening up land for the £45 million Oswestry Innovation Park development.

The work is being undertaken by Balfour Beatty.
