One of the leaders of the veterans’ association of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), Nasim Haradinaj, brother of Ramush Haradinaj’s uncle, accused of obstructing the judiciary and intimidating witnesses, claimed today before the KLA Crimes Court in The Hague that he disclosed confidential information in September 2020. documents of that court “in the public interest” in Kosovo, Beta reports.
Testifying in his defense, Haradinaj said that it was “in the public interest” to learn from those documents that the Hague Prosecution was cooperating with the Serbian authorities, which it accused of numerous crimes during the war in Kosovo.
“It was in the public interest to explain it publicly,” Haradinaj said, although he had previously claimed that co-operation “across Kosovo” had been known before.
Haradinaj denied the accusation that, at three press conferences in Pristina, he disclosed the names of the witnesses mentioned in those documents.
“I told reporters – ‘You know what you’re going to do.’ There was no need for them to name anyone, and we did not mention the names of the witnesses either … I told everyone that the names should not be mentioned, “Haradinaj said.
He also said that “the methods of the prosecution of this court are reminiscent of those used by the Serbian regime” by Slobodan Milosevic.
“How can the prosecutor’s office have a known criminal as the coordinator of cooperation (with Serbia),” Haradinaj asked.
As the trial chamber forbade him to mention names from confidential court documents, the accused described the “coordinator” as an officer of the military security service when “Milosevic was in charge of leading the media”.
“He took part in the massacres and justified the murders in the media, and now he appears here as a coordinator. That is the reason for the public’s concern in Kosovo, and the prosecution should also be concerned, “Haradinaj claimed.
According to Haradinaj, “Serbia still has the same approach as Milosevic.”
Haradinaj explained his opposition to the court, whose official name is the Specialized Council of Kosovo, by claiming that the court is “mono-national” and “selective” and “arbitrary” because it “criminalizes only the KLA and Albanians” and not Serbs who committed crimes.
“The prosecution mentions the KLA, and attacks Kosovo … This is how Milosevic’s approach continues … It is in the public interest to know that this court is selective,” Haradinaj said.
The indictment charges Haradinaj, 58, who is vice president of the KLA Fighters’ Association, and Hysni, the first indictee, president of the association, with six counts of “crimes against the judiciary – obstruction of official duties (two counts), intimidation of witnesses.” , retaliation and breach of secrecy (two counts) ”.
According to the indictment, Haradinaj and Gucati committed these crimes by publishing confidential documents of the KLA crimes court and prosecutor’s office, including the identity, at press conferences of the Association of KLA Fighters in Pristina from September 7 to 25 last year. potential witnesses.
The documents were submitted to the association by unidentified persons.
In his statement today, Haradinaj suggested that the documents were submitted by someone from the Hague Prosecution itself, but also that they were “planted” by the Association of KLA Fighters.
Haradinaj almost literally repeated the earlier statement of the first accused Gucati about how three unknown persons, on September 7, 17 and 25, 2020, brought documents to the Association of KLA Fighters.
Both confirmed that during those three days, after they, together with their associates, quickly reviewed the documents, they decided to make them “as soon as possible” available to journalists at press conferences at the Association’s premises.
Haradinaj continues to testify in his defense.
Gucati and Haradinaj have been in the custody of the court, whose official name is the Specialized Council of Kosovo, since September last year, when they were arrested by EULEX forces in Pristina and transferred to The Hague.
In their first appearance before the court, they stated that they were not guilty.
